Reach for the sky

Amongst other memorable constructions stands the pre-war Witte Huis (1897-1898) in Rotterdam. Also the Witte Huis (White House) in the Oude Haven (Old Harbor) area in Rotterdam is Europe’s first skyscraper. Another impressive and luxurious detail is the elevator.

With a height of just 43 meters and 11 floors the construction of the White House caused the building next door collapse. Therefore an expansion from the original size of 15×20 meters to 20×20 meters. The Witte Huis is by architect Willem Molenbroek and in the Art Nouveau style. It is a national monument in the Old Harbor in Rotterdam.

Together with the Witte Huis the Oude Haven in Rotterdam is perfect for great postcard pictures. Altogether the Willems bridge, water, boats and the many cafés are really magical. Here is the location!
