With a height of 8.5 meters Cascade by Joep van Lieshout certainly draws the attention in Rotterdam. The dark green polyester artwork represents the depletion of planet earth’s resources. The sculpture Cascade is in Rotterdam from the year 2010.

Altogether the 18 barrels leak oil in the shape of humans who fall and climb. The humans are connected with each other. The gigantic sculpture also refers towards raw-material stock, economic crises and the bankruptcy of consumerism. It’s like a lifetime struggle for reaching the top but also dissapearing to the background.
